Sweetened with aspartame and acesulfame potassium., the reason this is different than Diet Coke is Coca Cola Zero is a sugar free version of the Classic Coke formulation. In other words, this is meant to be a sugar free version of the red cans of Coke you know and may or may not love. It has a redder, deeper color close to the color of Classic Coke and tastes far less like a diet soda (by many accounts) than Diet Coke.

Yep - Coke zero based on Classic Coke. Diet Coke is based on the failed New Coke formula. That and they use different sweetners.

To me, Coke Zero tastes nothing like Coke Classic. I love diet drinks, and I much prefer the taste of Diet Coke over Zero as well.

It tastes like syrup just like the real thing (after drinking diet coke for years).

I hate diet drinks... I think I am allergic to most artificial sweeteners -- they all just give me a headache.

No. Both Diet Coke and Coke Zero use aspartame. There is, however, a version of Diet Coke that uses Splenda. It tastes like crap IMHO.

The differences are potassium citrate & acesulfame potassium versus citric acid. And more phosporic acid, less aspartame. Just reading the contents from the two cans.

Actually, Diet Coke predates "New" Coke. If anything, New Coke's formula was derived from testing done while creating Diet Coke.

I actually prefer the Splenda version to Zero. I don't care for the way aspartame tastes.

Hmm .... I really should cut down on my sugar intake, perhaps it's worth trying Coke Zero. I am extremely anti "diet pop" though, as most of it is just horrible.
