I really don't like going after trendy things but my mom just called me to say she got me a Razr w/ Cingular (for cheap)..I'm from Nor Cal and go to school in So Cal. How are people's success with Cingular in California? My Samsung Sprint phone has been great to me so far..

I don't know about CA, but Cingular's service here in Texas is great. For the price of the service, its actually better than the Nextel service I have.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and the service has been great... except for where I currently live. You most likely won't have any problems.

Where in NorCal are you from? I'm from Modesto and the service is pretty bad. I get horrible service where I live, but it seems fine most other places in Modesto.

cingular sucks so bad on the UCLA campus allegedly. they wanted to switch my sister to cingular, but she lives in the dorms and all the cingular people need to go outside to make a phone call. wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the campus is still like this. when i started in 99, all the cingular people had to deal with "system busy" whenever they tried to make a call.

I also have the black Razr, and Cingular reception is fine. Much better than Sprint and Verizon, but apparently not as good as T-Mobile.

Its ok in the Bay Area, and it sucks in Orange County. I think it might be good in Westwood.

I heard the same from my sister, who was in the dorms her freshman year (that was in 2000 or so, though).

yea, cingular at ucla from 2000-2002 was horrific. once it hit 9pm, forget it. those were the days when everybody and their mom (literally) had MTM. it's gotten a little better i think (i moved off campus in 2003, left LA in 2004) and it was generally usable throughout the places i frequented (west LA, westwood away from the dorms, monterey park, although there is usually no reception in the old medical center or biomed library). realize however that cingular is now using ATT's old gsm network, whereas t-mobile is using cingular's old towers. i think things have changed, but ATT's old gsm network was a joke.

i will say that cingular support and their business practices are still absolutely detestable. i went to t-mobile last year and will never go back..unless i can rape them for a free high-end phone, but my friend who's an indirect agent told me cingular has cut way back on commissions for them. but that's a whole different story.

It's been almost perfect here at UCI.

i had at&t at the dorms in ucla about a year ago and service was bad.. dunno how cingular is

i have cingular now and dont get reception in the apartment (verteran & levering) but i get very good reception if i step outside.. but it was like that with verizon, too. so i'd say service is good.

i dunno what it is with me, maybe its just luck, but i've never had reception problems. I started out with Sprint in northern california, during the time when everyone and their moms were on the "sprint sucks" bandwagon, which people continued to say even as they borrowed my phone to make a phone call because their cingular phones couldn't get through. Then when I switched to cingular, service was fine again in northern california. Now I'm in arizona with cingular and its still great. It could be because I've always bought high end phones instead of the free ones that they give out with new contracts. From what I've read those phones tend to be a little better designed and have better reception.

Cingular is huge in Cali, I myself have Cingular and think its great.

Verizon is suppose to be the next best thing (satellite?). I'm temptend to give them a shot.
