Planning to take the week of July 4 off. Planning a vacation, family of 3, have a 3 year old. Looking for some place that does not get too hot around that time. How is Aspen in July, does it have enough to keep us busy for 5 days? From its website it seems pretty good, historic temps are - Low ~40, High ~75, that's about perfect. I will be flying into Denver and then driving. What else to can we visit around Denver (not interested in museums and downtown) Already been to Rocky Mountain a couple of times, not planning to go there again.

Are there any other destinations that have similar nice weather, don't want to be visiting Disneyland or beaches.

Rockies in Summer are pretty nice, hot days, cool nights, rain every afternoon.

Aspen itself it rather boring. The scenery is spectacular at the Maroon Bells but the town is nothing special. There are fancy high end boutiques and historic buildings but if you're not in the jet set you're just another gawking tourist. The room rates are high and the drinks and meals are overpriced.

Glenwood Springs is more family friendly and cheaper. There are hot springs and the gigantic pool as well as caves that are worth touring. You can stay there and drive up to Aspen to look at the Maroon Bells as a day trip.

I always tell everyone coming to Colorado that the taxes on rental cars at the airport are astronomical. It's something like 28%! The only way to beat them at this game is to take a taxi into Aurora and rent a car there. You might want to contact a rental company and set things up in advance. You should be able to drop the car off at the airport when you depart.

Try to rent a 4WD SUV so if you see an interesting side road you can get off the beaten track and see the real beauty of this state.

Gorgeous. In highschool we took a family trip to CO in July. The weather is just pristine. And one day we drove to Aspen. I think on avg the temp was in the mid 60s to low 70s during the day.

I don't know why I read Aspen for vaccinations in July.

If you're into beautiful scenery and hiking etc., its pretty nice.

I haven't been to aspen directly, but if it's the same as where I have been a few hours away, expect mosquitoes the size of your fist

I went to Boise about a month ago, talk about some gorgeous weather! Not too much to do but it would be cheaper and very relaxing.
