Stanford-Binet IQ tests are only really a measure of average knowledge rated by mental vs chronological age, while the Wechsler actually does have a component of pure cognitive ability to it. SAT's, ASVAB's, ACT's, GRE's, state school tests (ITBS, WASL, ITED, etc)...while they are suggestive of some general knowledge or math/verbal ability, these are not valid IQ tests. There are at least a dozen other IQ tests as well, all with their own scales and interpretations and areas of testing. By some tests (like the SB & Wechsler) 130-132 is genius and equates to the top 2%, while on others (like Cattel) that number is 148.

We also need a better definition of the levels...by leet do you mean genius? If so 2% of the population qualifies, which is 120,000,000 people...just how elite is something with over 100million members??? It might be easier to break the scale down by standard deviations. Just a suggestion.

I dunno, but I think I got 129 so I am guessing I must have taken the SB & Wechsler test. A lot has changed since high school though. I'm pretty sure the stuff I have done has lowered it.

Definitely above average, but there are definitely smarter people out there.

It's more about how much work you put in.

not really. Not if you're smart. If you're smart you don't have to work that hard and just breeze by laughing at those who actually struggle at it.

;)

<---pretty sharp, but love learning things from those much more intelligent/wise than I.

And THERE's the big question...

intelligence vs. wisdom

I can eat an apple without choking to death but I can't tell you there is a God. So I guess I'm just intelligent enough.

I think I'll save that for another thread/day/poll.

I have never taken an IQ test but I scored perfect on SAT/ACT, both of which I believe are overrated as measures of intelligence. I'm probably just above average in math, but in science, history, and literature/english, I'm l33t :p Standarized tests aren't a very good measure of intelligence, because it's possible to study for those exams and make extremely good grades.

I also think I'm common sense/street smart, due to the fact that I hung out pretty hard in high school and having interacted with so many people throughout my life.

NOTE: The above does not mean that my grammar is correct. :)

Aye, I've had many people claim I'm a near-genius (not tooting my horn, but it's true). My standardized test scores have always been in the mid to upper 90s, except the LSAT (93% percentile, without studying or much sleep, :Q). There are some subjects where I will doubt my ability until the day I die, even though everyone I've talked to says they're some of my greatest talents. There are some common sense things, like women, that will always confuse the hell out of me.

Smart is hard to quantify.

My wife is farthest thing from book smart and seeing her trying to run my entertainment system is down right painful, but I don't know that I've ever seen anyone that is as adept in a social setting (intuitively knowing the right thing to say and do). She also can look at daunting situations and easily prioritize and assign tasks in the most efficient manner with ease.

After entering the workforce at 35 with nothing more than her GED she now, 5 years later, is likely to make more than me next year. :)

Who is smarter, Me or her? Hmmm.
