A first-year teacher at Salina South High School has been suspended following a classroom experiment Monday in which the same needle was used to prick the fingers of numerous students, raising concerns of transmitting blood-borne diseases.

"We noticed she wasn't changing the needle, so we

didn't go up to the center table," said junior Michael Weis, a student in Terri Nicholson's anatomy and physiology class. He was among several students who refused to have their fingers pricked.

Classic quote:
"There were a few people saying they didn't think it was right," Weis said. "But she said she wasn't poking hard enough to worry about."

I think the sheer stupidity of the teacher is enough to fire her, even if the chances of injury/disease spreading are/were nil.

This is not the first case of needle sticks used for blood draws in a US classroom using the same needle. A similar case happened three to five years ago. That case recieved medical commentary from doctors and/or pathologists.

I personally believe the practice of sticking more than one person with the same needle is stupid and extremely dangerous. I'm not a doctor or member of the medical profession.

The interesting commentary by doctors and/or pathologists in the previous case was that it's not as dangerous as we might think. They stated that if it had been a hollow needle it would have been many many times worse.

the risk of HIV is low, but hepatitis B & C is more likely.

Bah they're all banging each other anyways. Dang myspace skanks with their thongs hanging out of their jeans. When I went to high school there were no thongs hanging out of jeans, well that and there were no hot teachers banging their students either.......ok I'm just jealous.

But in all seriousness, yeah wtf why not just buy a whole box of lancets? They're not THAT expensive! What a dumbass teacher.

I come across more than a fair share of idiots even when credentials are required.
