How important to strap mod the E4300 in my case?

I have the motherboard and processor next to me and will get my RAM delivered tomorrow (got 4 gigs of it). I just now heard about doing the strap mod on the E4300s to move them up to a 1066 speed and was curious how often this is necessary? I would be very happy to have my setup hit 3.0ghz and want at least 2.8ghz out of it.

Also, will running all four memory slots on my motherboard make overclocking a bear?

Thanks!

the 266 mod is usually for motherboards that do not have overclocking features or the chip has a FSB wall.

before you do the mod, try overclocking it first via bios. the DS3 should be able to handle the chip fine.

if you hit a wall, then go ahead and try the FSB mod.

mazeroth, you should have no trouble hitting 2.8 - 3.0 ghz on your E4300. The BSEL mod you're referring to is for those trying to reach for 3.3 - 3.6 ghz on these chips. Without the mod, you should be able to reach 350 FSB (assuming the base 9x multi) with just a modest vcore / vMCH increase.

Well...

I'm running my E4300 @ 2808 (312 x 9) with only a "slight" adjustment to the voltage (1.34)

Now...

I can't seem to be pushing it further than that. Should I get the BSEL mod? And if so, where can I get it?

I'm also thinking of pushing to 3.6 and was wondering what was involved in the mod? Any links to a good guide to doing the mod?

Up for someone to help. I'm running late to work, otherwise I'd post some links! :)

The mod is good for oc'ing in motherboards that don't let you set FSB manually, but the FSB wall is more or less urban legend ;)
I read XS an awful lot and more or less people did it hoping it'd break the FSB wall but it didn't really (unless you have a wack ass motherboard that insists on using crazy tight timings no matter what fsb you set or something, but if you have a decent up to date overclocker board this won't do anything for you).

E4X00 Pin mod on XS

Oh HELL NO!

No way in hell I'm hardware modding my shiz! :D

All you need is a $15 rear defroster repair kit from your local Pep Boys or Walmart to do the mod. And it's completely reversible too with a little 90% pure isopropyl alcohol.

Also, this mod is NOT necessary if you have an Abit or DFI mobo with a strap select feature in Bios, FYI.
