I am setting up a wireless-G network for my brother. I got a Linksys WRT54G router and a Microsoft MN-720 notebook adapter.
Setting up the network was easy and I noticed default channel # is 6. The signal is nice and strong, until he goes into his backyard then a neighbor's wireless network (also on chan 6?) starts to interfere and the connection is dropped.
I changed his channel #'s around. First to 10, but the signal was weaker then to 3, which is almost as good as 6.. and the problem of getting interference in the backyard has been solved.
My question to you all is does it matter that he is not on the standard channel of 6? Will he not gain access to wireless networks in airports, public areas, coffee shops, or other house hold networks? How all does that work? is there a standard channel?
Thanks in advance,
jared
