I have a 256MB Kbyte 2700 cas2.5 and an *unknown* 512 PC2100 Cas2 out of a dell? Which one should I stay with?

Without more info about your computer and what it's used for, it's near impossible to say for sure.

ok so what if they were both the same size? I am putting together a gaming system. I'ts got an ECS motherboard and 1800+ retail Athlon XP. I'm wondering if I should buy another cas 2.5 Pc2700 ram module or keep the 512MB in there. My concern is overclockability.

If you're not overclocking the XP1800, stick with the CAS 2 PC2100... you won't see any benefit from PC2700 with an XP1800... but you WILL see the benefit from using CAS 2 RAM vs. CAS 2.5 If you're overclocking, use the memory that corresponds to the FSB you can run... PC2100 = 133 Mhz, PC2700 = 166 Mhz, PC3200 = 200 Mhz.

*EDIT* If you intend to play games, you'll be better off with slower, but more RAM than faster but not as much RAM. You'll want at least 512 MB for gaming.
