How I won the battle against spam

Ya know! I have realized what is best for sniffing out spam artists. And I reccomend it to you, its called Depart Logoff. This is how you do it, first you find threads with titles such as ( How I won the battle again virus's) or (How I got rich quick) the second thing to look for is post count, spammers get on the forums and only post about what ever it is that they are trying to premote but dont post any where else, so if they have been rambling on about how to get rich quick but they only have a few posts, you allready know!

My non *coughs* 2 cents.

You know how to get rich quick right? Make people pay $20 bucks for a pamphlet all about how to make $20 pamphlets on how to get rich.

That's about right. ROFL

i fight spam by leaving on an auto-response on my email, so whenever i get spam they get a message saying that i recieved the message...
btw, i don't think this fits in "operating systems"

You are only propagating spam by letting the spammers know that they are sending to a live address. It's also a good way to get your mailserver on blacklists via spamtraps.

LMAO, that is so true. Just look at Ebay's "This is not the actual product, but a way to receive one for $5" LOL!!!

But neither did this. I think he's spot-on. 🙂

I found running my own email server to be the most effective way.
After intermittant outages from whateverisp.com were annoying me anyway I just decided to stop with the nonsense.
It also won a battle against email viruses since I just scan it all on the server and everything that gets through is clean.
It's not missed a virus in 4 years, and I see maybe one unique spam every 6 weeks or so get through.
OS: FreeBSD
MTA: Postfix
Stuffs it uses: Amavis-ng, spamassassin, bayes, vipul's razor, DCC, and mcafee uvscan for unix.
Amavis has a mysql backend so the configuration profiling, bayes data and learning stuff gets stored such that I can export the tables and import them when companies hire me to stop their spam on corporate networks. 😉
Now that I have about 4 years of bayes data it's pretty comprehensive, since I have a couple of users who like to slap their personal demographics all over the more "adult entertainment" oriented areas of the net.
