How I wish I was a scientist...

Uh, lot's of ppl blow their nose when they have a cold. What is the point of this thread?

Dumb thread is dumb.

if we were so sure of "the obvious" doctors would've kept on bleeding patients to make them "better", and we would've continued thinking that the planets and the sun revolve around Earth 😉

wtf is the point of plugging both nostrils and blowing? To blow boogers out your ears? I'd think your ear drums wouldn't like that much.

The way I do it is 1 nostril at a time into the sink. If I'm at someone I don't likes house then against the mirror. I like to see the fruits of my labor.

The reason why they "study the obvious" is because, every so often...it's not. And those times are when breakthroughs happen.

Also, it's not obvious that blowing your nose would cause excess pressure in your sinus cavities. It would stand to reason that it would be a harmless and normal thing.

I can't believe the degree to which this society reaps the benefits of science while scorning its methods.

that's called the vaisala maneouver, used to pop your ears like on a plane

If you have a stuffy nose, there is enough mucus to fill a shot glass. In related news, I found a drink that is even better than a cement mixer.

Actually, under scrutiny, I wonder if reason and logic would indicate that it's natural to blow your nose, rather than to sniffle. What's "gross" is mostly a societal construct. And, I'm sure that Kleenex & other companies just loved to promote that blowing your nose is much more healthier than sniffling. (Akin to how our society has mostly embraced the concept that a diamond ring is given for engagements.)

Did cavemen have kleenex to blow their nose into? Perhaps, if the pressure is high enough, bacteria, etc., are forced into the sinus cavities where they multiply? Perhaps blowing our nose is much more damaging to our health than we would have suspected?

Just a thought to counter your "obvious research."

One day someone will connect this study to a dozen other currently unrelated studies and cure the common cold or something. Research pretty much always pays off eventually.
