how hot should my Celeron566 get?

I am using the ASUS PROBE to check my CPU/monitor temp. I noticed that when I run defrags or virus scans the temperature shoots to and sustains a temp of about 132F to 140F. My CPU is cooled by a golden orb.

Is this something I should worry about? I get these temp readings even when the Celeron is NOT overclocked (normally o/c to 850mhz).

Make sure you have an updated version of probe. I know the older ones had this problem. My 1Ghz P3 runs at 32C idle and 42C full. Just to give you an idea.

That doesn't sound too bad. If you're not having stability problems, then you're OK. I'd worry more about it pushing up the ambient case temperature like my dual celery's do, and consequently overheating other components!

Be aware of this: These sensors tend to check ENIRONMENTAL temperatire, not so much the actual core temp. If you'd convert those degrees F into Celcius, one might actually make some sense of it. Either way 45 degrees C shouldn't be anything to worry about, if that's what you're getting .

With Intel don't worry about temp, it usually takes a lot (I mean torture testing) to burn them up.

I have been doing some testing and I am running my Celeron 533 at 9xx on a burned out Peltier with the heatsink above it so basically it gets very little head dissipation (cause the peltier burned out and I am a bit lately in the summer here, I am hoping it will burn out so I have to buy a new setup). The little guy won't burn out!!!!!

My C550 runs @ 32C when room temp is 23C and case temp is 31.5C (under full load).

Im running a celeron 566 @ 850 on an abit be6 II using the golden orb to cool it

not sure about fahrenheit, but mine normally runs around 32C and has been up close to 40C on rare occasions.. These temps are pretty common...

anyone wanna translate 130-140F back to C?

I have a P3 600e slot1 system that has a case temp of 43C.. and the processor is about 60C... I'm not sure if that processor temp is accurate because it's on an abit bxr2 mobo and the cpu temp sensor isn't built into the motherboard. It's more like a little probe that you tape underneath the heatsink next to the core. It's stable, but I think it needs better cooling because those temps seem kinda high.
