<< so you guys reckon a 250watt power supply isn't enough? >>

For power supplies, don't ever try and use the minimum wattage you can get -- get a beffy power supply that is at least 300W. Good power supplies are the key to stablility.

My old Pentium MMX 166 (oc to 200Mhz) box had a fairly beffy 230W power supply and it had a good long stable life. My current box, a Gigabyte GA-7VXE mobo with a AMD Altlon XP 1700+ CPU, has a 300W power supply.

ok, power supply could be my problem....but that doesn't explain it only happening when i play tony haw 3 does it? im sure quake 3 would put more strain on the system than thps3.

btw, whats a good, small util for checking CPU temps?

Buck_Naked, i just checked out the site you mentioned and found a thread regarding the 8K3A. apparently nearly everyone else is having a similar problem. it appears that the boards temp readings are as much as 10-15 degrees higher than they should be. i haven't checked yet but i think mine must be reaching 60degrees during thps3 and restarting. although it still hasn't happened in q3a.

ok, now im pretty sure it is the PSU as it happened for the first time when i wasn't in tony hawk 3.

is there such thing as a util that can tell me how much of the available power from the PSU i am using? that would be a great way to be certain that is the problem.

Buck_Naked, thats not true in all cases about the 8KHA+. my friend has one of those with an athlon 1600 and it only has a 250watt PSU and he has never encountered any problems.

The Athlon has always been a very power hungry chip. I've never seen/heard anyone who has reccomended less than a 300 watt PSU for them
