Not dumb at all, because hardly anyone pays attention to the issue of onboard sensors versus on die diode. AMD specs say the XP cpu's can handle 85-90C read at the cpu's on die sensor.
Again, this reading is typically 20C hotter than the onboard sensor located under the cpu itself.
Gwlam12, what mobo does your friend have? What is reading the temps, MBM? Does your bios PC health show the same reading? If your board is reading the cpu on die sensor, MBM can usually read the onboard under cpu sensor, too.
