unfortunately, us kaliphornians are stuck with piss 91 octane as the max.

Why is 91 the max? Thought most of the US had 93. Is it state law?

Some emissions thing, something like they oxygenate the gas to reduce emissions, but it lowers octane also. CA being the smog nazi state and all.

Kind of sucks cause supposedly my car has knock sensors and it retards timing for crap gas. 91 is getting expensive, so I might have to start using 87. :(

How terrible. I've never owned a car that required less than 93, so I would be fairly pissed.
Oxygenates raise the octane.

So I'm not sure why their max is 91.

Don't buy 87 if your car takes premium. Even if it does have knock sensors, it's just not good.

Someone should bomb OPEC and get some responsible leaders in there who will set some reasonable standards and not this crap like they are doing now. Everyone knows how rich Saddam was from his oil. You have to imagine that 90% of all OPEC members are living like that.
Are you serious? So, once oil hits 2.50 in the future the US should say "enough of this", and go and take those countries out? I don't think that the last iteration of the gulf war was for oil, but in the future the US will very likely attack middle eastern countries to get some of their oil. Essentially this will be starting a war over nothing but money, all so that people can drive SUVs more. Then we'll run out of oil altogether.

Sounds good to me. We should get even bigger and more gas guzzling SUVs to consume more oil. The ultimate in prestige would be to say you drive a $90,000 suv that measures gas in gallons per mile. It's especially important that this suv never drive in snow, go off road, carry more than 2 people, or carry more cargo than a car could.
Good idea. And if OPEC is "unfairly" keeping gas prices too high, let's just take those nations out. Afterall, it's our god given right to have very cheap gas, even if it isn't ours. It's just not nice of them to force us to drive midsize suvs, when we should all be driving school bus sized ones.

We could easily drive the price down through economic and alternative means, but why would Bush do that? He loves Big Oil.
