How high is to high?

Ive just bought a fan controller so i can adjust the noise level of my 4 fans. Its 4 TT fans that came with my TT Case. 2 for intake at the bottom front, and 2 output fans at the rear under the PSU.

With my current setup without the fan controller CPUCooL reads the following temperatures in idle:

CPU: 42C
And then 2 other temperatures Temp 1: 18C and Temp Sens 0 = 25C

I dont know what the two last temperatures is but i would guess that its mobo and case temp?? Its on a ASUS A7n8x Deluxe.

The hole idea of the fan controller is to be able to turn down the noise level of my computer when its idle - would be nice if i could sleep in the same room.
But how high a temperature should i aim at, as the trade off between noise and heat.

Any suggestions are more then welcome :)

42C is a great CPU temp for any Athlon. Seriously, the chips are good up to 85C, but try keeping things around 55-60 max.

Oki maybe its just me thats paranoid, because i always try to keep it below 50C :) But when my computer is idle and just downloading stuff, there is no need for such a low temp, so I will just try to keep it in the mid 50s.

But what about the two other temperatures of 18C and 25C - anyone know what that could be?

They are from CPUCool - messaured on the following system:

A7n8x- Deluxe
AMD Thoroughbred 2200+
1Gb Ram (2*512) dual channel Samsung.
Geforce ti4200 128mb.
37Gb WD Raptor (Systemdisk).
80GB Seagate IV.
12x Plextor Cd-Burner.
300W Noname PSU. - but very quiet :).

My old p3 has been running on 42C for mobo/case temp for years on hot summer day and it's fine...
