How high can you take the old Pentium 233MMX

Building another computer with leftover parts. Will be running an FIC 503+ board and have AMD 350 or P-233mmx to
choose from. I think the AMD will be faster unless I can get
the Pentium to run at 112 x 2.5 or 100 x 3.0

I seem to recall some people getting around 300MHz with the 233 with a good H/S fan combo. Your mileage may vary. I'd rather start with the AMD and work up from there, especially if it supports 3DNow.

I had mine up to 262mhz, using generic fan and generic old montherboard. Oh yeah no thermal paste either =P

Yea, I previously ran one on a Abit IT5H @75mhz bus for the
262mhz. With the other bus speeds available I want try 100 and 112.
I will start building it next week.
The M-board is the Fic 503+
Mitsumi 6x
WD 1.2
Seagate 545
TNT 8MB
Basically a clunker system.

Had one up to the highest my motherboard would take 83mhz bus. And the P233mmx the multiplyer can't go higher then 3.5x, which sucked hehe.

would non-mmx cpus' be worse oc'ers? i got a non-mmx 200. i can't change the fsb on the mobo, but the 3.5 multiplier is available.

do you think the pentium200 w/ intel hsf w/ paste will fry if i try 233?

Consider yourself lucky if you can run the pentium mmx at 83x3.5 = 290.5 Mhz. That is the highest speed and fsb it can stand.

mine works ok at 266 and boots up in 300 also but crashes in window. I think its cause of a crappy ram. and too bad it only has max of 83fsb and 3.5multiplyer. because i think it'll be much easier to other components if i can run it at 100 fsb and adjust pci divider to run at 33mhz.

so i think 300 would be a good target with good mb and pc100 ram.

good luck

Have 2 P-233s (1)112x3=336 and the other (2)100x3.5=350 also they run at 2.9-3.0 volts. They both run on Abit Bx6 boards. Both have been running at this speed for 11/2-2 years. Hope that helps.

ZX, you got PII-233s there, not quite the same thing. The later models of that cpu overclocked very well, and AFAIK they were also the last multiplier-unlocked cpu from Intel.

cheers

I used to have it running 100x3 on FIC 503+ with a large cooler & fan from an AMD Chip.
