IF it's a Venice core, you'll get 2.4GHZ pretty much on stock volts.

I got mine all the way to 2.8GHZ on 1.55v.

1000mhz overclock isnt too shabby at all!

900mhz overclock isnt too shabby at all!

Correction: 1 ghz overclock. :D Stock: 1.8ghz

I had my Winchester 3000+ at 2.4 ghz without much effort on my old Asus A8V (non-overclocking friendly) and value memory.

I think you could easily expect a 600 mhz overclock. Higher than that will require some more tweaking but it's possible as Matt2 demonstrated. Good luck!

OP, what motherboard are you running and what are the specs on the RAM? I'm not too familiar with G-Skill's lineup.

My Venice core 3000+ will boot into Windows at 2.7ghz (300x9) but isn't very stable. That's at 1.50 volts. Right now I run it at 2.56ghz at 1.5volts. I can run the PC all day at this speed and the temps are very reasonable so I leave it at this speed.

Matt2 - I've got a DFI RDX200CF-DR and the RAM is G.Skill PC4000 HZ:

Model Name : F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ (1GB x 2)

Overview : PC4000(DDR500) 3-4-4-8 Dual Channel

Specification
Capacity 2GB (1GB x 2)
Speed 500MHz DDR (PC4000)
CAS Latency CL 3-4-4-8
Test Voltage 2.6~2.8 Volts
PCB 6 Layers PCB
Registered/Unbuffered Unbuffered
Error Checking Non-ECC
Type 184-pin DIMM
Warranty Lifetime

I'm getting a single stick to start (of the two) and then buying the second a couple of weeks later so that the guy can finish upgrading.

I think my aim will be 300mhz FSB stable - with my AX8 I had it doing SuperPi at 290mhz FSB but my AX8 couldn't boot into Windows at higher than 280mhz FSB *shakes fist*

When I lap my heatsink next week and replace the thermal paste I'll find out the stepping :)

At least it wasn't an English exam: you may have faired none too well at that :)

Venice 3000+ at 9x267 (~2.4GHz) with 1.40V

I thought that last sentence sounded a little strange.

OP:

Are you comfortable playing around with the RAM dividers?

You could go all the way up to 2.25GHZ (9x250) without using a divider.

Or you could go 9x267= ~2.4GHZ with a 9/10 divider.

Try it without upping the Vcore and see how it responds.

I'm perfectly comfortable with dividers - I was using them with my last motherboard and a bit with my current one.

IIRC, with my last MB (Abit AX8) I reached ~230mhz FSB with stock VCore and then SuperPi started slowing down and became unstable and then I raised it.

How do you 'burn in' CPUs? I've heard about it but don't know exactly what.

I'm looking forward to getting my new RAM (its on its way :D ) and the lapping kit and Shin Etsu - hopefully Monday next week :)

ahhh. ok, didnt know if you were an OC noob or not.

Just try 2.4 on stock volts and go up from there.2.6 is pretty much a safe bet with some vcore.

OK :)

I'm looking to go to about 1.55V on my CPU but I'm not looking to go much higher and I'd prefer lower.
