How have some people here survived as long as they have?

Yeah, this is flamebait, and I'll probably never hear the end of it, but what the hell, I had to get it out sometime...Here goes.

<Begin Cornbread Rant#1>
Why is it, with some of the people here, that they can't make one simple move in their life without asking for advice in the forums?

Here's just one example out of many of the type-posts I'm ranting about: The question about what to eat for lunch with $13. How hard is it to decide what to eat for lunch? If you've already got an idea of what you're going to eat, and post about it in the original post, why not just eat that and be done with it?

Posts like that have lead me to believe that some people here can't figure out anything without the help of others, or, they are so starved for attention, that they will ask such meaningless questions in an attempt to gain some of that attention. I tend to believe the latter, because I don't think they would've made it this far in life not being able to figure out something so simple, unless, that is, they've been spoonfed by mommy your entire life.. But then again, they'd probably be asking which nipple to suck on.

The point in that example is, if you're trying to get an idea of something different to eat for lunch, why bother mentioning what you're probably going to get in the first place? I mean, come on already!

One other thing I want to rant about is something that I haven't noticed in a week or so, or maybe it's because I haven't read/lurked ATOT quite as much lately, but it tends to happen quite often: Speeding ticket threads. If there was a top 10 list of the most common type threads, speeding ticket posts would be very close to the top. With so many posts over the years about people getting speeding tickets, and asking how to get out of a ticket, or what they should do in their situation (which is typically the same or very similar to every other person's thread about tickets) regarding a ticket, the OP's of these threads should already know the answer they're going to get on here. A lot of these same threads come from people with post counts of well over 1000, so it's not like they haven't read at least 10 of the same type threads before.

Since it's pretty obvious that if the people that post these type threads did a search for previous posts regarding the same issues, they'd have their answer, it once again sounds as if the posters are just trying to gain everyone's attention, not honestly looking for an answer to their question, but more or less just trying to brag about it in a subtle way.

It reminds me of back in high school, when kids would get a ticket, often their first, by the time that ticket went to court or got paid off, the ticket itself would be ragged from the kid showing it off to all of their friends so they could see it.

I've given 2 examples of how it seems that so many people in here are starved for attention that they will post anything to try to get sympathy, or just get an answer or a reply, so that it will feed their hunger to know that someone read what they wrote.
For those of you that are guilty of this, what is wrong with you? What's gotten you so low in life that you resort to such things? How did you survive in life before ATOT, and do you plan to use this forum to live the rest of your life? I understand asking for advice here and there about meaningful things or stuff that someone could use advice about, but some of the things you ask for advice about in here are just ridiculous and childish. For the sake of the people around you, and to keep this forum from looking like a playground full of kids that can't do anything on their own in life, try making some decisions on your own without the advice of others.
The feeling of being able to do things on your own, ie being independent, will eventually give you much more of a feeling of accomplishment in life, than the little bit of euphoria you get now from getting the attention of others on an internet forum about every little movement you make in life. In a way, I see it as a psychological issue, and I see that you get some type of "high"/euphoria from getting that attention, but it's going to cause problems later on in life, if it hasn't created problems in your life already.

Anyone wanna flame me on all of this? Anyone agree with me on this? Comments? Rants?
Have a good day!

Here is what I do...when I see a post that I don't like or don't want to read again...I just don't bother reading said post. Give this idea a try, you just might be able to sleep nights from now on. Good Luck.

i'll bet all your friends, coworkers and neighbors love you because you launch into a stupid rant everytime they say, "hey what do you want to do for lunch".

you are obviously a brilliant conversationalist whos abilities far exceed that of the average person.

It doesn't keep me up at night, I find the posts quite amusing to an extent, I just noted what I see as going on with the posts (looking into them a little deeper), and in a way, I feel sorry for the posters.

I wasn't posting about someone asking what someone wanted to do for lunch IN REAL LIFE. An in-person, off-the-web question like that is totally different.

A lot of people here are under the false impression that we care about them and their lives so they feel the need to share.

Why is it, with some of the people here, that they can't make one simple move in their life without asking for advice in the forums?
Well, this is easy to understand. See, most of these folks who lack discretion and the ability to figure things out for themselves are the same folks who's mothers still wipe them after going #2 in the toilet.

The OT description.....A public meeting place, a Pub, if you will.......

The majority of the time in a pub the conversation normally revolves around bragging about doing a certain speed in a certain car, how to fix things, asking for advice, attention seeking, complaining about SO's, g/f's and meaningless life ambitions.

After visiting OT for over a year (different aliasis, forgot username when moving ISP's and reformatting, etc) I've noticed that OT description is very acccurate as to what you would expect from the users posting.

......."Hay, look what I found."
....."my SO is annoying...."
...."my car has 12" sub's"
........"I got caught by a copper"
..."my money situation is $hit"
.."etc..etc....etc"

With a post count within the three figures I guess you have just realised this.

If you don't like the conversations raised - don't read them
If you don't like the people here - move on
If you want to brag, moan, complain, point something out - then welcome

People here aren't as brave nor as outspoken in person as they are here. People can be as big, tough, brave, and outspoken as they want when they're anonymous and there are little to no consequences for their words or actions. It's called "Internet Persona". There's been a few studies about it done. Basically, people on the Internet act like they do when they're drunk: they lose inhibitions and follow their true feelings without any social graces getting in the way.

"what to do threads" are good since we have thousands of people on here and nothing beats experience... but yes... lunch is a stupid way to use this.

Well, first of all, where are the darn cliff notes? LOL.

Second, if you see a topic that posted before, you don't have to click/read/reply to it, very simple. I do agree that you have the right to rant. Ain't this country great? 🙂

I'm the real thing, baby. I'm actually more out-spoken in real life than I am here on the forums. If anything, I'm calm in my postings. 😉

I just took a crap. What kind of TP should I use? Quick, help me out!

Edit: Haha seriously though, people are just stupid. Once you realize that, other's actions make a lot more sense.

Actually that's how I read it lol.

Point taken, though not well.

Some people are just attention-whores, and if it's been this long and it's still getting to you, I seriously suggest you just quit posting here and anywhere on the internet. Yeah it's annoying sometimes and yeah they just make themselves look like jackasses, but rather than whine about it, why not go into the thread, laugh at them, and then go into a serious thread and help a brother out?

Sheesh... and I thought I got moody when I was tired!

After reading these forums for over 3 years, I have noticed a general decline in the quality of the posts. For the most part, people here can hold a decent conversation, and quite a few post on subjects that are "postworthy", but it just seems that over the past year or so, a lot of users have seemed to have run out of decent and/or interesting things to post, and like mentioned before, many of them seem to have absolutely no real world social skills, so they post on here to get their "fix" of attention.
I'd assume that someone that is that desperate for attention would actually create a thread that's worthwhile to read, but maybe they just assume that since they can get their attention posting the same old garbage, why waste the effort in creating a good thread?

I'll continue to hope that they can develop real life social skills, and begin posting worthwhile/interesting topics in ATOT.
