One of my friends wants me to set up a wireless network for his house. Two computers will be used, one upstairs and one down stairs (where the cable modem is). I am not worried about the downstairs computer as I can just plug it into the router. But the computer upstairs is an old computer running windows 95. I went with my friend to get what he needs to make sure he gets the right stuff. We decided to go for Netgear products. He got the wireless router and for the upstairs computer he got the MA401 and MA301 because it doesnt have USB and the MA311 doesnt support Win95. How hard is it to install those products on a Win95 machine? Is there anything I need to know that I havent mentioned? Also do I need to install the drivers for the PCI card then insert the PCMCIA card into the PCI card, or will the computer detect it all at once?

edit - oops, looks like you want to install the 301/401 combo into a desktop machine?

First, install the driver software. Then turn off the computer, plug the 401 into the 301, then install the PCI card into the machine. Turn it back on, Windows should find it and finish installing the software, then you can set the settings to match your wireless configuration (i.e., SSID, WEP, etc.)

Since you are going to use Wireless PCI on a Desktop, I would suggest that when you first install put the two computers close together. Otherwise if there is a Distance Problem, nothing will work and would know why.

Once they work adequately put the second computer in it destination, and see if it still maintains connection.

Good advice. That's what I do when I set up any wireless client.

Might not be possible doing that as the desktop is a big heavy clunky box, but I am doing it tomorrow morning so Ill let you guys know how it went.
