Are new durons harder to unlock than the older spitfire-based ones? I might have to buy 1Ghz duron for my KG7 mobo and I would like to run it with 133Mhz FSB.

nope, this is where you get lucky--because the durons are still on ceramic and not organic, they can't burn pits in the chip. thus, the old pencil trick on the bridges will do the trick.

Thanks, that's good to hear. I tried to unlock 700Mhz duron with pencil yesterday but that didn't came out very good: sometimes mobo allowed to choose multiplier and sometimes not. After about fifth attempt to redraw bridges it only worked with default multiplier and I got bored & leave it be. Maybe than pen wasn't very good conductor...

The Morgan duron that I just recieved (a few weeks ago) has a distinct trench down the center of the bridges. I am not sure it would be possible to bridge it with a pencil. I am not sure if this was a fluke or what, but it sure didn't look easy to unlock.

It was for a friend anyway, and I don't overclock friends systems too much anyway(if they couldn't do it themselves). I have a 10mhz fsb increase and it is still happy and it runs great. I am really happy with it.

I do believe that it has been stated that AMD has employed a new, finer method of laser cutting the bridges on their Duron's. It should still unlock with pencil lead.

I recommend using the Dixon Ticonderoga brand. They have the softest #2 lead out there, and I read that it has a rating of 1ohm of resistance. I've had boxes of these for a while. I also recommend these pencils for simple writing, as they are easy spreading lead :)
