I know that this is a very general question. But if i buy all parts needed to successfully OC, how hard is it to OC an E6400? On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the hardest, 10 being the easiest)...
Also (very general question again) what sort of gains should i expect?

With the right hardware, it is easier than creating this poll!

Seriously, get a good mobo, DDR2 800mhz RAM, A good PSU, Great CPU Cooler and you'll be set to go!

If you've ever OC'd anything before and you can read and use the BIOS then it's about as easy as ordering a pizza online (or a video card, or a bride, etc.)

Depends on the mobo.

With a good mobo, it's really easy.

It's extremely easy as long as your motherboard is willing (as in, it's based on a decent chipset and the BIOS has all the options you need). With the 6400 I think you can expect a 50% overclock rather easily (on air) and perhaps something like 70-80% if you're fairly lucky and good cooling.

By the way, I think your scale messed up. If you ask how HARD something is then, obviously, the higher numbers should indicate a higher level of difficulty. If you wanted to ask how easy it is then your scale would be just fine. I'm just nitpicking because there isn't much else to say about overclocking and I felt my post was too short :p

EDIT: Forgot to close my parentheses, oops.

Why do we need a poll for this??? there is so much info out there now that "easy" is the understatement of the year - so no a poll is not necessary
