I've never learned to drive manual but if I wind up getting another car at some point (probably about 4 years from now) and it's a stick, I would like to know how to dirve it :p

So how hard is it to learn stick?

Pretty easy, you will get a good feel for it with a couple of hours practice. It may take a few weeks until you feel fully comfortable with it

its different for every person, depends on the teacher and the car. i bought a stick car not knowing how to drive it, and i learned quickly :)

it was difficult for me at first but after a few days of practice, it was simple. I love driving a stick.

With just a few hours of practice you should have the basics down. About all you need to know is one thing: if the car is stalling, press either the gas or the clutch down more than you are pressing it. If you do that, you should be able to drive on flat surfaces without problems on the first day.

Doing it perfectly while stopped uphill on a steep slope covered in gravel and/or ice is another story though. That takes a lot of practice. And hopefully your first time practicing it isn't with an expensive car tailgaiting you.

Pretty easy. I taught my girlfriend in less than an hour. Took her to an empty library parking lot and told her what to do.

Took me an hour to get it w/o worrying about stalling on first, and after that, it took a long time to shift crazy smooth - like about a year.

agreed. it is easy. And as long as you're not retarded it's not that bad for modern clutches either.

Any monkey can drive a modern car with a manual transmission. They're really very easy to drive and are very forgiving.

I taught myself to drive stick in less than an hour when I was 11. It's pretty simple if you find somewhere to tool around with no other cars on the road.
