How hard is it to get a tech job in NYC?

I'm an unemployed web developer looking for a job, I noticed NYC has a lot, but being a west coaster I'm apprehensive about making the move, anyone every move to NYC and start from scratch? success/faliour stories and advice appreciated.
 
If you can afford to make the move and take the chance, then go for it. If you're a single guy/gal there isn't a whole lot to lose. OTOH, if you are married with kids you will be taking a big chance if you don't have a confirmed employment contract prior to relocating.
