how happy are you with your roommate?

I was definitely at a 4/5 with my roommate when we first were living together... we work opposite shifts (I work 4 pm - 12 am, while he works 12 am - 8 am) so it was basically like living alone.

it went downhill pretty fast after his girlfriend moved in, though. b!tch is hanging out in the apartment 24/7, using up the hot water, leaving hair all over the place, and making a total mess in the kitchen every time she cooks (meanwhile, not cleaning up after herself whatsoever and not contributing to any of the bills/rent).

I gave my roommate an ultimatum (kick her out, have her start paying rent / helping out with the cleaning, or gtfo). so I'll be living by myself by the end of May and I'm really looking foward to it 🙂

I presently live alone and love it. In the past 4 years though:

Best friend from high school, 1 year in the dorms - 4/5. Only downside was he would be bitter when my girlfriend was around, since he liked her a little too much.

Best friend from high school again + 2 other guys, 1 year in the dorms - 2/5. One other guy was creepy as hell, the other other guy was a real douche, and the best friend had too much fun with his webcam.

Girl I sort of dated for 2 weeks before we just decided to be friends and get an apartment, 1 year in an apartment - 5/5. Yum.

2 girls I met online when I really needed to find a new place, 10 months in a small apartment - 0/5. worst 10 months ever.

And as of a week and a half ago, I have my own place 🙂

Me and my roommate were like best friends when we moved in. Now we hardly see each other or talk at all. People that don't live us talk to him more than me! He doesn't clean up often and he got our cable cut off cause he didn't pay for two months. He now got a dog and it keeps peeing EVERYWHERE in the living room. Plus he doens't even mark the spots with a paper towel or anything to dry them up. I just get suprises when I step into wet spots.......So glad I'm moving out next month >=[

My roomates are pot heads and often have too many people over. But they pay the rent and smoke me out. If I want it quite, they know that a closed door = I don' want to party. They don't clean up often enough though, and I find myself cleaning the living room or kitchen before I can really relax. I hate a dirty house.

i had roommates in the past two years, i had fun with my first roommate but not the second roommate.

now i live in a single room and will live in a single room again this fall.

I used to live with my highschool buddy and it was pretty good since he always cooked. It was a blast when I was living with 3 other dudes I didn't know, never got bored, had parties, etc. But none of them ever cleaned up for themselves. I definitely had the best time living alone. No one to clean up after but myself, can have people over when I want, it was good.

I wish I was living a lone =(. Private time with GF and such. Now I have to share the house with 3 others.

I didn't really like either of my roommates in the dorms-- I'd give the first one a 3/5 because we could make it work, but I preferred to spend my time elsewhere. My second roommate was incredibly annoying-- I'm going to have to give her a 1/5. I slept in our room maybe ten times throughout the year, and spent the rest of the time in my boyfriend's room.

This year, I'm living with my boyfriend and two other guys who lived in the dorms with him two years ago. It's working out pretty well, because the one guy that none of us really like is only around a few days a week. This situation gets a 5/5 from me. It's very cool.

College:
Freshman, Dorms, Semester 1: A Japanese exchange student. We hardly talked, kept to ourselves. He would come back from smoking and smell bad, but for the most part left me alone. He left his laptop up once and some japanese porn pop-ups came up, which was just funny any way you cut it. He also drew himself using the pencil tool in Paint... I saw it and told my friends, they thought the concept of it was hilarious. I snuck onto his computer with a floppy disk and copied it off. 3/5

Freshman, Dorms, Semester 2: A friend of friends. We liked the same music and similar interests so we moved in. Was a cool guy and all but I could tell he would get annoyed with some of my gaming habits, then when I started dating my fiance, she would come over sometimes and it would make him uncomfortable since he had known her prior to her knowing me. 4/5

Sophomore, Dorms: Another random assignment. The guy had the same major as me, but was fat, unhealthy, unkempt and ate really loudly, watched movies really loudly (TV was 4ft from my head while he sat on his bed across the room behind me). Typical dirty/smelly/spoiled kid that listened to bad indie rock and had bad ideas for movies he tries to make. Then he would bring his nasty girlfriend over and they would loudly kiss and flirt while watching loud TV. Hope he ends up in a Sarlacc pit. 0/5

Junior, Apartment + 3 friends: Knew 1 friend from before college, the other two we met while at college, so fairly comfortable with each other. They watch movies loud til 2am at night, luckily I can retreat to my room. Of course I got stuck sharing a bathroom with the dirtiest kid. Showers once a week and when he does, lots of his long hair ends up in the shower, clogging the drain so the water can't drain fast enough, thus standing water in the tub while showering... hair balls all over the house. I do most of the dishes, I control all the bills, so I make up for it that way. 4/5

Next year, Apartment + Wife: Will finally get somebody who shares most of my life habits and is overly clean and non-disruptive.
