How great a time is late July for a new computer?

I want to build a new computer, but my current laptop is still doing quite well with the games I play (well, actually I don't really play PC games right now).

I don't really know of any games I want to get soon for the PC either. So it's really not necessary at all for me to build a PC.

Thing is, I know I'll have a lot of fun making and customizing it and might end up buying a game with higher system req's just to see what today's midrange gaming PC's are all about. It would be a good way to spend some of this summer's free time.

If I wait a while, say until Xmas time, to build my comp, do you guys think prices will drop considerably? I'm looking to build a midrange (maybe midrange/budget) PC for under $1250 or so...

Giving the fast change in computer technology I tend to build one only when I really need it.

Otherwise 6 month after the build I feel that I have an old "cluncker".

The variation in price of top tier components for a Top Rig is not so significant during its time cycle.

RAM is on its way back up in the spot market now. Trade projections in CRN and others predict 30 percent next month. That would be the cyclic back to school fall market.
