That's what I figure as well. My company is doing the same thing, 50% up to 6%. I think I tried to ask the plan administrator about it before. But she seemed kind of confused as well, so I just dropped the conversation beacause her head were about to explode from too much thinking. Not even sure how she got the job when I had to explain to her about 401k rollover.

They automatically put in 3% of my pay whether or not I put anything in at all. (EDIT: they don't take that 3% out of my check, they put it in themselves)

Then, they match 100% up to 6% of what i put in.

It's not 3% matching. If you only contribute 3%, they're still only matching 50%.

Good point. At the same time, if you give 3%, it's actually 1.5% full matching. But I know what you are saying.

It's pretty avg. We used to get profit sharing, but that was dumped this year in favor of a pension.
