I have an AX-7 with a Vantec Stealth fan running at 2000 rpm. With this setup, my 1700+ TBred at 1.875 Mhz stays under 40c under full load. I using Artic Silver compound and default voltage on the 1700+.

With temps in the 50s, I would make sure my case had good cooling and that that hsf was seated properly (plus a better fan is a plus!):)

try clearing stuff outta the path of the air first (ide cables and such)
if the insides are a mess, the only way you're gonna do any better is to get tornaod's or delta's lol

(that is if the insides are a mess...)

did you put the right amt of as2/as3 on? (a paper thin layer, if possible thinner, is required)

and i jst noiticed u have T3.....:Q:Q

me wants T3... :(

lol

hm...do you think it would be a good idea to get rounded cables? i'm just wondering because i wonder how much a difference that would really make. I'm not sure if i put enough as2 on....i may have put too much, but how can i tell? do you have a pic or something. heh t3 = school connection

Ur temp is fine if the temp is on-die. Replacing ur crappy fan to any 80mm fan capable of 37CFM or more show lower ur temp a bit. Sunon, Panaflo...Vantec stealth...

As mention the reading is from on-die which is truer and will be higher. The 50's are still safe and the rig is running stable right?...K then ;)...Another thought (with the suggestions here) is to reseat the CPU and HS/Fan, clean of the the core and put new Compound on NOT using your oily fingers, and go with a higher forced air fan.

is it worth paying $34 for an ax-7 over $25 for an sk-7? i plan on buying one of those tbreds from newegg, and pumping up to around 2400 - 2600 speeds. bear in mind, noise (or lack of noise) is very important to me, so i will be putting a panaflo l1a on whichever one i buy.

I use the SLK-800 on an AMD 2200. I am using the 80 mm HO Delta Fan 4900rpm 68.5CFM. I have a voltage regulator on the fan and have it dialed down to 3200 rpm. Full load for 1/2 hour and I am at 38C! Can't remember what I HAD overclocked this thing to at one point, but at 3800 rpm I still never exceed 38C at full load. (at 3200 rpm I really can't hear the delta).

Simply, the SLK-800 is the best cpu cooler I have ever owned, and one of the few pieces that it I had to buy again, I would. I thought about buying one of the silent fans and suspect that things would remain unchanged - but since I can dial down the Delta, why bother. But I would not hesitate to say that you could throw any 80 mm fan on it - actually the SLK accomodates 60 - 70 -80 mm fans.

Take a look at this thread http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/

You'll see theres not that big a difference between the slk-900, slk-800, and the sk-7
The prices are respectively $50, $35, and $20 at svc. Its up to you to decide which is a better value....btw I have a slk-800 and it works great :)

I have the Thermalright SK-7 with a Y.S. Tech Fan 80mm 10.2-48.5 CFM variable on an EP-8RDA. With the fan turned up all the way, my 2100+ rev B @ 12.0x195 1.8v runing SETI got to a high temp of 44oC when my room temp was 71oF, but stays down around 42oC when I have my room temp at 68oF.

Edit: And I used a paper thin layer of AS3. Paper thin, I promise! It was so hard to resist the urge to put more on!
