I just bought a ASUS W90

here's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834220527

It has a two ATI 4870 graphic cards which i believe are more than capable of providing a good gaming experience but i'm concerned with the processor that comes with this W90 version.

Should i get a T9600 (2.8) dual core for $549.99 at newegg?? Is it worth it?

I'm getting the laptop tomorrow granted UPS keeps it's promise hehe.

Wow, that is a beast of a laptop!

I've got the Q9000 in my Sager and it's a great CPU. The only game I have installed and played on it is Fallout 3. But, it has no problems running that game and I doubt it would have much of a problem running any other games.

It's sort of a good news bad news thing. The bad news is that most games right now do not support quad cpu's. So basically two of those cores are useless, unless you run something else in the background maybe while you play. The flip side of that is that more games are going to start using quad core.

The other good thing is that you should be able to upgrade that CPU to something like a QX9300 in the future. It's a 2.53 quad that is an extreme edition. They're around $500 right now for just the CPU, but at least you know you have a future upgrade path. That is my ultimate plan. I'm sure something else will come out better than that also.

It's ALWAYS better to ask questions first, then buy. lol You're sort of doing this backwards. You've already ordered it. Might as well try it and see how it works. I'm positive you'll love it though.

Thanks for the quick reply

yeah i know i should ask 1st but this bad boy was out of stock for a couple of days and i couldn't afford to let it go since Newegg is one of the very few places you can buy this laptop.

I totally agree with you when you say it is a bad and good thing lol, i also looked around for the QX9300, that's actually what i wanted as it is a higher clocked and has double the cache amount of the Q9000 but i can't find it anywhere. Any suggestions on where i can find it?

Use Froogle and search for QX9300. I know there is one on ebay for $699 and I think there is another place that has it for around $500, but it's on back order. I saw another one on ebay about 2 weeks ago for $599. Just wait until the prices drop or they release a new mobile CPU. Then you'll be able to upgrade for cheaper and keep current.

Wow, sweet laptop. Why not try your games out on that before dropping a pretty penny on a new processor? Some of the newer games like GTA-IV actually utilize more than two cores.

Perhaps there might even be some overclocking option in the bios? Or worst case scenario through software? I'm sure you're not concerned with battery life on that thing ;)

lol, battery life on the 17" sager isn't the best. It's just over 2 hours. I'm not talking about changing procs right now, but maybe a year down the road when the warranty is up. I can always use more cpu power becuase i do a ton of encoding...so it only makes my work faster. I don't game that much...so my purchase wasn't based on games.

i just got it yesterday, it does have a overclock button. All you have to is press that thing and it overclocks as high as 15% (up to 2.3ghz).

It is a pretty neat laptop, very well built and games very well. I played Grid, FC2, AOE III since i got it and so far so good.

Battery life does sucks, but then again with 2 gpu's and a quad...

One last question, would any of you buy a ES chip? Reason why i'm asking this is because i just searched Ebay and found 3 guys selling QX9300 engineering samples for $400 OEM, meaning no warranty from Intel.

I'm not confortable in risking my money on those but it seems that a lot of people are buying them.

Two other guys are selling OEM ones, in the box for $500-700, since the official price is around $1000 i think it's a good buy.
