I won a couple of spelling bees in my Junior High, but I quit participating after that because I wanted to hang out with girls.

I'm not a godly speller, but I am very good. The main thing that trips me up is the randomness of which vowels are used in certain words. With some of them, you just have to remember. It's why so many people spell ridiculous as "rediculous." For comparison, the first two vowel sounds in "definitive" are exactly the same as the first two in "ridiculous," yet for some reason they don't use the same vowels. "Relevant" is another one (seems more logical to spell it "relevent"). There are tons more but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

HORRIBLE!, spell check is used almost after every 2 words lol. If I slow down my typing I bet I could spell right the first time.

Being a grammar Nazi was my mom's job - she taught grammar to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders :p

My roommates had on the spelling bee the other day (why, I don't know), and they interviewed one of the contestants.

She started speaking and said, "If I was..."

and immediately I corrected the TV :)P) "If you were, bitch! You need the subjunctive mood!" :D

Don't worry Mosh, I really am nice! :p

Why the hell are Americans so obsessed with spellings and grammar and punctuation !!!

I mean, we also have regional dialects here in India, No body actually gives a damn about your grammar here in India !!! Instead people consider it cool here if you goof up your grammar(atleast in my college)

Because clear, concise communication is important.

I'm confident enough in my spelling ability that I have never used spellcheck. When I'm not sure about a word I look it up so I'll hopefully remember for next time.

It's gotten me a few positive comments giving presentations when I have to use a whiteboard. And I've seen some co-workers look pretty stupid. I remember seeing...

comittee
organazation
reavaluate
reduxion

...among others.

I don't like looking dumb in front of the execs.

I get lazy. I know I could structure my sentences more clearly and orderly or attempt to spell a difficult word without spell checker or proofing though unless it's a formal document or a strong point im trying to get accorss, I simply don't care.

Was that a run on? The hell with it.

Actually, spelling is one of my strong points. I attribute this to the amount of books I read.

Worser than terrible.

If it wasn't for spell check + Google people would think of me as more of a blithering idiot than they already do.

I was a programmer for a long time. FORTRAN and spelling errors was a bad combination.

I'm a great speller, not a great typist unfortunately.

I'm alright at spelling. I do not have a vast database of words in my head like many crossword junkies.

good enough for every day use.

spell check rarely picks anything up on my work IM's or emails, but I wouldn't exactly enter a spelling bee or anything.
