I usually do the same. I think tripod/yahoo had an annoying one where you had to select the picture that wasn't a cat. (That was BING)

There's a couple of sites that you can pay a few bucks and it'll fill captchas for you automatically

edit: it was rapidshare. This one is pick the letters with the cats.

I can do most fairly easily, but the new trend for the Google captchas that often contain bizarre symbols that equate to nothing my keyboard can produce without resorting to ASCII code? Yeah, I'm refreshing that shit 400 times in a row until I get "cat gilded" or something else that at least resembles words.

Isn't there an entire site devoted to ridiculous captchas?

I've only encountered a few terrible ones, most of them I have been ok with.

It really depends what they use. Some are so bad it will take me 5-7 tries before I get it correct. Some methods are much easier though.

That's inhumane :)

I wonder if the fill in sites are human? I know with Simple Machine Forums people are always trying to improve on CAPTCHA to keep spam bots out, but if you can pay a site to fill them in for you there's no hope.

Yea, It kinda defeats the purpose when it gets so difficult humans can't even get them yet machines can still fill them in?

I am awful at them. Especially the ones with colors because I'm colorblind. I also do the whole recaptcha fake word thing where I put in a offensive word for the word its trying to recognize.

I've noticed you don't have to be 100% accurate with those (at least with Ticket Master anyway), as long as you get most of the letters right you're good.

Google captcha's only have one real captcha word. You can enter anything for the other. If it has punctuation or weird characters it's not the real word.

Maybe this is an elaborate ruse - CAPTCHAs are simply an ongoing test to determine when computers are intelligent enough to outwit humans.
Once we're no longer able to make CAPTCHAs that can keep a computer out, we'll know that our species' reign as top critter on the planet has ended.

"Are you human?"

-- "No. I'm better than one, in more ways than their puny organic brains can fathom."

"Access granted."

-- "FREE C1ALIS WITH PR3SCRIPTION!!3!!!@@@@"

Worst one I ever had.
Emailed the webmaster and asked him WTF.
He went ahead and signed me up (ElderScrollsNexus).

I'm about 75% efficient at them.

What I have trouble with is creating captchas that damn spammers can't figure out. I had to shut down one of my forums because it was a full time job just clearing all the spammers every day. :( This shit needs to be illegal. Screw copyright and all that BS, spammers and hackers actually are the real problem on the internet.

In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship.

I think you can use a askimet plugin to remove most of the spam automatically. Otherwise, you're screwed once the xrumer guys add you to their sitelist.
