i think dells best offer for a video card is that 64mb geforce 4 4400 go or something

Off the subject, but why cant you have a desktop? Laptops are expensive, seems presumptious of them to assume you can just afford a laptop.

yeah, or is it more of a you dont have room for it? or is it a cold stone RULE? seems odd.

anyway, id wait for something w/ the new radeon9600, should be your best bet 😉, but start saving for it now 😛

I am also intrugued as to why you can't bring your desktop.
also it is too early to tell what type of machine you will need for deux ex 2 but it is the unreal engine so you can go on say what will run rainbow six 3 right now and upgrade that a bit.

So is assuming you can afford $400+ per credit hour. 🙂

I played UT2003 on a very simmilar laptop to that alienware (same build - case, 2.4GHz, R9000 64MB, 256RAM), and it run very good on quite high detail, same settings as my P4 1800/GF3 Ti200, noticably better framerates.

Doom3 on the other hand was like 5 fps... but didn't crash 🙂

From that experiance I can tell you that it is possible to play 3D games on a laptop especially with those upcomming mobility cards, but Radeon 9000 has some power in it as well.

BTW here's a link to that laptop:
CA9001
it's in polish currency = $2054, it may seem to look different than that alienware but it is exactly the same notebook.
