They're somewhat commonplace, unfortunately. Some people get lucky and never see one. Others have them on every LCD they buy.
Personally, my first LCD had 2. My second and current monitor has none.
They arnt really though. Think how many pixels a 24" monitor has, its amazing we see as few stuck pixels as we do.
My desktop has over 3.5 million pixels and they are all perfect, thats pretty amazing.
That's not what I meant. Go to any tech forum (such as Hard Forum) and in their display forum there are tons of monitor models that have their own thread - some spanning 100+ pages long. In each of those threads, there are numerous people that report back that their newly bought monitor has dead pixels and they're disappointed.
I'm just trying to illustrate that the LCD manufacturing process will continue to have the dead pixel issue, especially in the mainstream/consumer price range ($200-$500) where there is less importance placed on QC.
I know, I'm just pointing out that its pretty amazing that we have as few dead pixels as we do.
Imagine if you had to make 3.5 million anythings and all of them had to be perfect. D:
