How fragile is that green top of the AMD CPU's and rounded cable question

First, how solid is top of the CPU's (SlotA, Duron, T-Bird)?
Is that the core?
I noticed that the sides of the top of an Athlon classic I have are
jagged, as if chipped.
I had been rocking it back and forth for a bit trying to get the heatplate off/on.

I want to know if I have to be careful.

Also, is there a potential problem with rounded cables generating electromagnetic interference with the cables bunched together like that?
I'm assuming that the normal cables are not shielded.

Wouldn't this interference degrade the performance for the ATA 66/100 and SCSI devices?

When mounting your CPU and HSF, just don't breathe and you'll be fine.

What cables are you talking about? But anyway, the answer is no. Digital singals are filtered regardless of signal purity and any interference that a digital singal induces on other signal line is minimal , especially for such low voltage and the fact that your singal line (cables) are not running parallel to one-another, right?! You'll also notice that many of the small wire cables(e.g. analog sound from CD to sound card) are twisted; this is done to minimize induction/crosstalk between the wires and interference from other sources.

As long as you don't have your wires taped together in parallel, or something silly like that, interference should not be a problem.

Bring's up another good tip, using category 5 phone line (twisted pair) can improve your modem/dsl connection speed.

Seriously, BE CAREFUL, and try to put the plate flat from the beginning of the process.

I'm talking about the 'rounded' cables people are using to improve airflow and lessen the _wall_ around the hard drives.

I noticed that people would cut them up in strips, then tape the strips parallel to each other.
Sort of forming a rectangular assembly.

Go ahead and round your cables, just be careful. If you don't want to cut them, just fold or roll them and tape them.

The core is very, very fragile. If yours is chipped it might already be dead. Hit the link in my sig and check out the pics of the tiny chip that killed my first duron. taking off and putting on a heat sink is a special art.... especially on these new flip chips..... Just breathe slowly, take a deep breath and go for it....... my trick I do,,, (so I think it's a trick) just put gentle pressure on top of the heat sink and fan until you have the clips unhooked or hooked up. that way you aren't rocking it back and forth.
