I see. But GPU's actually get much faster with each generation and with a CPU 10% faster is considered great (small IPC improvements and clock speed bumps). Higher capacity memory also serves a purpose. A 6 core CPU hasn't shown any benefit whatsoever to even a gamer rig, only professional work, servers and folding perhaps. So in a few years at this rate chips will have 50% wasted space to many consumers. If AMD gets in more trouble I imagine Intel can force people to buy more cores they don't need by phasing out the older parts. There's always the bright side if you are on the board or a shareholder. lol
