How fast will the GTX 480 be?

That would be Theo's "GeForce GTX 400 series available in higher volume than Radeon HD 5800? article?

Can't get much more solid than that.

I believe Theo has yet to be wrong on anything Nvidia related.

Well yea of course but that's not saying much as it can be 1% faster and be the top gpu on the market which is sad. For how long we've been waiting and how much faster they said it's supposed to be back then, it's sad that the early reports are only 10% faster.

This guy (apparently well regarded in that forums) claims to have tested a ES GTX 480 with 512 shaders and 600 MHz core.

This is relative performance btw.

Fallout 3, Ultra, High-Res Texture Pack
HAWX, DX10, SSAO Very High, 4xAA

The scores were a little higher for the ES card with the second set of drivers but nothing record-braking.

Core temp idle was 58C, core temp load around 86-90C, which was good.
It's laud, but not 5800Ultra.
In the tesselation tests, the GTX-ul won with +53% vs 5870, but this is as relevant as the 5-point parallelism issue where the The tesselation performance wasRAdeon wins with 350%+.

Idle power is at least 3 times that of the 5870 and the drained power at load was 283W. The official 480 will have less drained power because it will have a whole shader cluster disabled.

Guess we will know soon enough.

So what he tested wasn't even what we're getting so that sucks. Everything he tested doesn't matter to us at all and we shouldn't even care about it.

Well the GTX 480 with 480 cores will be clocked a bit faster so the difference shouldn't be that impressive if these claims are true.

yeah if that was 600 then the shader clock was 1200 so actually 480sp x 1400 would be a little faster than 512sp x 1200.

If true, it's kinda moot. Would only matter if Fermi was released alongside Radeon 5800's.

It's faster seven times (twice by a biggish amount though), slower five times (again twice by a good amount), and tied once. It's not the final shipping part, so I guess we'll have to see how a faster clocked part with less cores ends up. But interesting graph none the less.
