How fast of a CPU can I put into a BX board?

I have an Asus P2B, and the specs say on Asus's site that it can take only up to a PIII 600 (I have revision 1.04. 1.12 can go higher). Anyone ever put a higher clocked CPU in a board that doesnt support it? There are actually multiplier jumpers on the board up to 8x (Not that it matters, Intel CPU's being locked). Thanks for the input.

I think what will determine the highest-speed processor will be the bus speed of the board. I am guesing since your board says it only goes to a PIII 600 chip, than the FSB is limited to 100 MHz

What it means by 600 is that you are limeted to the Pentium 3 Katmai core. Newer pentium 3's are of the Coppermine core. Many older BX boards do not properly support coppermine chips.
