I have something most do not, it's called EOPL (Ethernet Over Power Lines). It's a 3MB up/down service. My upload always rocks, great for FTP!

I had heard about EOPL awhile ago, last I remember they were ready to test, possibly implement, and never heard about it after that. From what I remember, at the time it had the possibility of being much faster than cable or dsl plus the benefit of being able to reach any home connected to the power grid.

How well does it work for you?

Comcast has great speeds. For $2 a month more you can get 6meg with the speed boost thingy, which will give you 12-14meg 99% of the time. Upload stays the same though...

I'm happy with 6meg, since I'm coming from a 512k connection I had for 3 years. :)

Amaroque, how does the speed boost thing work? I'm about to get stuck with Comcast. Is it available everywhere?

I've had it for about 3 years now. Luckily, my area was one of the test areas, so I got in from day 1. All I can say is....IT'S AWESOME. I'm a gamer and my ping times are fantastic anywhere in the con US. I've never seen over 80 ping to any server which blows away my old DSL. Uploading files is a snap, I really like the upload speed for that.

It doubles your bandwith when netork usage isn't at a peak. Ray may already have it. I only pay for 8megs, but I've always had 20+ (in three different locations).

The lowest I've seen from Comcast, on my own acct is 16meg.

I'm pretty sure it's available nationwide (where comcast is available). There are many write-ups on it. Just search "comcast speed boost"

Yeah My ISP just jumped everyone from 10/1 to 15/1 free of charge. I have been hitting higher than 15 on some servers though, but I would say that is due to the inaccuracies of the Java based tests.

Wth?:confused: ,what happened to the d/l speed?;)

My 4M/400k cable costs me £25/mth ,which is about $50.
Speed is throttled down at peak times if I exceed a certain limit ,can't remember what it is but its not bad.
