How Fast is Fast Enough?

This was something I've kind of been wondering for a little while now. I was inspired by all the speeding ticket threads, and all the God-Damned-F#$king-Slow-People-on-the-Highway threads, and all the road rage threads that show up here. Almost all car threads that involve movement on the road (accidents I wouldn't really considered movement oriented) seem to revolve around how fast people think they should be permitted to go on the road.

The question is, how far should people on the inside/passing lane of the highway be going when they're driving?

So here's a poll for that. Measurements across multi lane highways would be multiples of the ideal speed based on the number of lanes. (ie, 2 lanes means inside lane should be going at least 5 mph over, for 3 lanes that would mean 10 mph, etc.) For any of you not able to handle that kind of simple math, I certainly hope you don't drive a automobile!

This is ATOT. Most polls lack validity anyway.

Still, assuming normal driving conditions for the road, how fast should people look at going?

If you're going below the speed most others go at you're holding up traffic. I think that for every mile below the speed limit you get you should get fined $200.

crap - i wanted to vote for: As Fast as They Want to Go
but clicked on: As Fast as You Want Them to Go

damn you for the wording in those choices

I like to go 75-80, so thats 15-20 over on the highway I spend the most time one.

It has wide lanes, easy curves, and light traffic, I don't think its too much to ask.

Interesting results so far. I never would have expected the 10 mph / 15 kmh option to be the high one, what with the number of people who always post about how fast they have to drive around their areas, as well as those that yell and scream about slow drivers. Heck, the last option I was expecting to be the most popular!

Let's see what the afternoon crowd does with it I guess.

It really depends on what traffic is like. I like people to move as fast as they feel comfortable because then I just move out and follow them.

I also disagree that the multiple applies outward in. On the three lane freeway, the middle lane should be the driving lane.

people should do at least 15 over or stay out of that lane, IMO. and if someone comes up behind you, no matter how fast you're going, you should move over.
