How fast do you drive on the freeway when it's raining?

Let's say it's coming down pretty good to the point where you need to have your wipers on low to medium to see. How fast do you usually drive in this type of weather condition?

I usually do 60 in light traffic and 55 in heavier traffic. I always see trucks, suvs, and minivans just fly by doing 80 or so. Funny, those are the types of vehicals I see flipped over or on its side by the freeway.

60-65 max depending on how heavy traffic around me is.

75-85.

I slow down a little bit.

Now if visibility is significantly impaired even less. So a torential downpour is maybe like 35-40 Mph.

70-80
but you need to have the right kind of tires for it otherwise it's scary..
with tires that can channel a fair amount of water, its just like driving in the dry :)

I only reduce my speed for snow, ice or enough standing water to cause my dinky little car to hydro plane. Growing up and living in NW Washington aclimates you pretty well to driving in the rain. Heavy fog, rain/spray or snow, to the point that you can barely see one car-length ahead, usually slows me down too.

only about 55. my stock mustang tires aren't that good in the rain. I have started hydroplaning at 65 before.

I don't slow down too much until I start seeing water buildup on the road surface.

How fast SHOULD we be driving, Professor??

I go as fast as conditions allow. Somtimes that's 90, sometimes that's 80. Most people drive WAY too slow in the rain, especially here in SoCal where 90% of those on the road shouldn't even have a license.

If when it starts to rain and you automatically slow down to 45 MPH then expect to get blown past by me.

I live in Seattle. If driving the speed limit or above in the rain killed people, the city would be empty in a week. Don't be stupid...freeway driving doesn't involve much cornering, and as long as you leave enough space in front of you you'll have plenty of time to stop.

I go as fast as I feel I can go safely. If its raining pretty bad where you have the wipers on high and still can't see very well, then I'll slow down. If there are more cars around me then I'll adjust to make myself feel safe. There is no set speed, its whatever the conditions are.

depends highly on traffic conditions and how hard it's raining - with medium-light rain and light traffic, I would be comfortable driving about 70-75 on a good surface. Rain picks up? Maybe down to 60-65. It all depends on the conditions.
