How fast do you build a computer?

Less than an hour.
I hate HDD jumpers. Last time it took 30min to figure out how to configure 3 HDDs plus a CD-RW right. I love the kind of manuals which shows faulty pictures of master-slave settings.

About an hour to assemble the hardware and another hour or so to intsall windows, office, and cd burning suite. Then maybe half hour downloading windows updates.

About 45min to an hour since I have to do headers, apply AS5 carefully, etc, and I have to test boot a little along the way. With my luck, I get bad parts one out of two builds 🙁

Hardware only and assuming everything is opened and ready to go in the box I could probably put a machine together in <10 minutes... I use a power screw driver and I've assembled 30 or 40 computers.

Yeah basic installation with the minimum parts is a snap, especially when you do over a hundred systems with the same configuration per order. It's also real mind numbing!

IMO the case is what makes a build go smoothly. If you have a POS Case that's cramped it really can hinder you where as a Decent Case with a pull out tray makes things all so easy.

Yea, the cases I buy for my customers when I used to sell a shitload of them, I built the computers in 20 minutes tops and software was another hour and half. I probably could build a computer in my sleep. 😛

You're right about the case I once had to use a POS case for a build and it took me 30 minutes just to figure out the cheap-ass excuse for standoffs

I just put together a Linux box the other day with left-over parts from previous upgrades. Assembly took about 1 hour, I suppose - mostly to dig out heatsink clamp, figure out front-panel control connections, etc., OS installation took way longer than expected 😛

After awhile the Shop I worked for started sending them out to Sweat Shops in the Bay Area where they only charged $8 per system and had FOB's building them. However the return rate ate up the profits as we would have to go service them when they fell apart.

To be honest though after building so God Damned many of them the joy of building a Computer kind of went south for me. These days I don't even like cracking mine open for an upgrade.
