How fast CPU will a Asus A7V133 support?

I updated the BIOS on my Asus A7V133 mobo which is suppost to add Athlon XP support. How fast will it support exactly?

With bios of 1007 and higher it will support upwards of 1.8GHz (2200+). I have even double checked myself, because I will be putting a 1900+ (1.6GHz) in tomorrow.

I also have an A7V133 and was wondering are there any performance difference between using an Athlon XP with A7V133 vs a KT266 motherboard or some other chipset oter than KT133A...?

I have 1007 BIOS. Well I would like to upgrade my CPU and if it really does support 1600+ XP then I think I will ditch my 1gig and get a 1700. Yippee . But I would like for someone to confirm this though. Also how durable are the AGP slots on these boards? Are they built so the Video cards can be removed and inserted alot of times?

I heard from someone that AGP slots break easy if cards are removed alot.

Do we need a Kt266A board to take full advantage of the Xp?? Would SSE be used if I use a Xp CPU on a Kt133a board?? I've been wondering for the longest time.

I personally think the XP will perform fine on the KT133a chipset. Yes, the KT266a will perform better, but not by a huge difference. The main difference is DDR memory. When I get the new chip on my mobo, then I will post benchmarks, etc.

Not sure if this will help you. I am running an XP 1600 on my A7V133 board with no problems. I flashed the bios about a month ago. I don't remember which bios rev. it was though.

Edit: It scored around 59xx something on 3dmark 2001. Thats with a GF3 Ti200 and 512mg of pc133. That is without tweaking the memory or overclocking the XP or GF3.

I know the CPU will run but what about SSE?? I thought it has to be enabled in the BIOS?? I'm lost.

I see no reason for SSE not to be supported on the A7V133 with the latest BIOS. I do remember reading somewhere (think it was AT) that you will have to reinstall Windows2000/XP in order for SSE to be used by the OS however.

Make sure the board revision is 1.05 or later. I heard people with 1.04 using xp with no problems, but Asus says 1.05 or later.

Installed AMD Athlon XP 1900+ @1.6GHz today on A7V133 with 1007bios. No problems.

Mine got unstable with jumperless mode.
If yours get unstable, change to jumper mode.
It was running fine after it got jumperd.
Yes, mine was rev. 1.04.

Yes, I went ahead and set to 12 x 133 in jumper mode. I wasn't sure what might happen otherwise, so I thought I would manually set it.

No, there's a 13X multiplier somewhere on the board. I believe there is cause I used it.

The A7V133 currently supports ALL AMD XP processors. Mine is 1900+ (or 1.6GHz). The A7V133 will support speeds above 1.8GHz.

Unfortunately your SD RAM runs out of bandwidth at 1.4Ghz, maybe less with a XP.... I wouldn't upgrade to a super fast cpu, just a waste of money. The SSE should work, and all the other features too, just won't be able to get the most out of it.

I would have to disagree with this sentiment. I have a A7V133 with a 1200 Althon on it and plan to upgrade probably in a year or so. DDR would provide better performance with the newer Athlons but it is by no means a waste of money to get a faster CPU. It of course depends on the application but getting a faster CPU should substantially increase performance.

Only reason I want to upgrade would be for games. Would it be worth the upgrade going from a 1.2 to say 1600/1800+ with SDR ram?

I've just upgraded from an 850 T-Bird to a 1.53 Ghz XP on this board. Installation was a bit rough.

I knew about the 1.05 pcb rev being needed for jumperless mode with XP's , tried the cpu in jumperless ..nothing .. did some more research and found out that the pcb rev needed for jumperless operation is

1.05. not 1.05

Voltage must also be set through jumpers , which are pretty badly placed .

My board also incorrectly displays the vcore voltage at .05 less than actual , I think this is a problem with all A7v133's and XP cpu's.

I agree that a DDR setup will offer more to a AMD XP, but those of use that have KT133a motherboard can get the most of what we have WITHOUT upgrading our motherboard or ram (right now). I will probably upgrade my motherboard when the KT333a chipset is avaliable. I don't see the upgrade of motherboard/cpu/ram as the best alternative. I want to get the most of what I have right now.
