I go from sac to la all the time. After stockton its almost like the autobahn if there aren't tons of trucks causing gridlock. However there are many white camaro cruisers that frequent I-5. I usually just floor it in the open in between overpasses and then bring it down to 85 when passing rest stops or the exits for gas. I wouldn't be so cocky to simply set the cruise at 100mph and think I can make it the whole way, that would be a gamble.

Anycase i am glad someone else thinks the speeds on teh 5 should be raised to 80.. or autobahn driving should be allowed enfored.. all the trucks stay on right lane, and all the slow cars should stay on the right lane.. if you see someone coming up behind you that is faster, pull over..

I am trying to find the book I learned BASIC from. My mom picked it up from a bookstore somewhere, and I used to read it over and over on the john when I was 8-10. I usually go about 90 or so if I can. I have gone 125 or so once or twice, but you definitely want to stay under 100 on sustained speed. They take it much more serious if it's 3 digits 
i make the drive from sac to hollywood in 5 hours flat, with gas and food breaks.
i usually average probably 85mph the whole way, never going faster then 9...3 or so. this is coming from a teenager driving a red ricerocket, so if im not obvious i dunno what is. i think the trick is to try and speed with multiple cars, find someone you can keep pace with almost exactly and try to pick up more cars. driving I-5 in a speeding caravan of yuppies and soccer moms is fun =]

Take a quick look at the speeding violation tiers... in NY metro, 0-9mph over is worthless and 10-14 is 2pts with fine... that can generally be plead down to nothing. 15+ and you have a reason to be worried unless the rest of traffic is all 15 over.
I'd say about 80. 85-90 if you wanna push it.

I drive as fast as traffic and the terrain allows. Most of it is open, so you can drive as fast as you like. Some slight hills here and there. My radar works well since it's flatland.

The key is to find one or more vehicles that are faster than the speed you want to go and just follow their tail, from a small distance away. That way the cop's attention is diverted to the one or more vehicles in front of you, and they're your guinnea pigs And it won't be as obvious that you're the only oddball on the road
And trucks are not slow either. Some will be passing like mofos weaving in and out as well. At night time, trucks are a god send when visibility is reduced (especially in fog). Follow a trucker at night, can't lose. Just don't get wedge between two trucks 'cause if something happens you're the hotdog and they're the sandwiches.

Things have changed on the highways. When I first drove S.F. <--> L.A. you were pressing your luck if you drove 75. That was in the 1960's, when the posted limit maxed out at 65. You could easily get tagged for going 72. I guess it was hard when they had the "55" limit.
Dont worry about the speeding ticket bro. Once you hit southern Cal area, there will be soo much traffic you wont make it past 40mph.
65mph is the speed limit...some areas will post a 70mph sign, so look out. I hope you dont run into any ticket-happy cops.

That is kind of harsh, yes we have traffic allot of times but there are time when freeways do flow

Very effective. Watch out for speed traps with several cops working it though.

Watch out right around Coalinga. I found out the hard way a couple of weeks ago that they have a CHP station there. Got pulled over and written up for 100+. Even still, I made it from Hollywood to Sunnyvale (onramp to offramp) in 4 hours 10 minutes.
Watch out for the white CHP Camaros, as well. Generally, the CHP doesn't use radar, but watch for occasional air enforcement.

I set cruise control at 82 when I'm on I-5. I get passed enough that I'm not really afraid of getting pulled over, and I pass enough people that I feel like I'm making progress. At that speed, I rarely have to take it out of cruise control.
who said 65 is the limit? you are retarded, it's 70 on the 5. I've driven it about 20 times in the last 4 years. go 85 and you'll be fine
I go from Sunnyvale to Hollywood a lot myself. Usually about 5 hrs or so.
What happens if you get 100+ ticket? Is it reckless driving at that point?
