Just wondering, is the term "2 blocks away" an actual set distance or just an approximation that varies from person to person?

A block - the next street down. Size varies. Go down two blocks and make a right = go down two streets and make a right.

It generally means you would cross two streets to get somewhere that's 2 blocks away. This is a city term, as rural "blocks" could be dozens of square miles, and suburban "blocks" are just wacky.

hey crazymofo!

Guys, let me be more specific, i know that when people say 2 blocks down they usually mean 2 streets down.

But what about when you're at the beach, no streets around, just grassy fields? Some lady said the house is 2 blocks down, but there are no f-ing streets, just grass.....

Well then she's obviously nuts! (Or she's referencing the streets that "T" at the beach-front road, streets that you can't see from the beach.)

Then correct them and tell them they don't know what in the fsck they're talking about. That's like telling an amputee to walk foreward two feet, but them looking at you like a dumbass because they don't have feet.

There has to be a street somewhere on the other side of those houses... it's two blocks down on that street.

check the picture, the house is up on a hill, with grass and palm trees and green stuff everywhere, no roads, cept behind the house. It's kind of a resort house, "away-from-it-all"....

2 blocks to the beach?
asked lady how far to the beach from the house, said 2 blocks.....

Blocks in the city (downtown areas specifically) are typically 1/8 of a mile.

Yes, that picture shows EXACTLY what you're describing... :)

OK, I'm guessing you're thinking about renting this house for a vacation, and you want to know how far it is from the beach... What beach is this at?

Using "blocks" to describe a distance that is not covered by roads is borderline retarded.
