How far did you OC your 6600 GT?

I have a leadtek AGP one but I can't get it past 545-550 core without artifacts. Temp tops at 70c. Whats a good memory setting? Do you use the coolbits 2.0 for ocing? To check temps do you just alt-tab out of the game while the temperature was open in the backround? I think there was a thread before like this but I can't find it.

When I run Coolbit's optimal detection I get like 570/1040, 550/1000 is what I've attempted to run it at, but X-men Legends II would crash at those speeds. Could be my generic PSU or the core, but there's not visual artifacts at all at those speeds, so I don't think it's the card. I'm leaving it at stock until I get a new PSU and new cooling.

VR-Zone modified the 6600GT to increase its voltage and get a better o/c. However, at the link below, they found that the 6600GT stock heatsink was not mounted very well, thus inhibiting their o/c. Take a look at your heatsink and make sure it is mounted securely. Doing a search on Google will show you that others have had the same problem.

To monitor my temps, I use NvTempMonitor.

Wow, they're right my heatsink can be pressed to one side like that. I'm afraid to take it apart though and put the bolts on it.

The highest it has gone is 600/1200 with my XFX 6600GT, but it was artifacting slightly. In Hl2/CSS, no artifacts can be reached at about 580/1220. In BF2, its about 560/1200.

I'm not sure, I'll have to check again but I think that Leadtek wasn't the best overclocker. XFX was the best overclocker overall, but runs hotter than most.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2295&p=15

As you can see, XFX was a very higher overclocker, while the Leadtek was a bit mediocre in the memory area. Leadtek was better with the core though.

They're all AGP... that's an AGP comparison chart. ;)

Plus, even if you don't get exactly what the chart lists, it probably varies from card to card.

Just to answer the question this time 550/1100 is my o/c. I just read about the heatsink issue yesterday. Since I am traveling I have to wait to get home to try it to see if it will help out or not.

Finally got my BFG 6600gt working...

What do you guys use to overclock? The Omega drivers did what I needed to do with my ATI card, but I'm clueless now since this is my first NVidia card.

Coolbits is what I use for overclocking. Just a simple registry tweak that adds in clock settings. I've managed to take my Evga 6600gt agp up to 564/1.17 I was worried about temps though so I enabled temp monitoring through the bios tweak, and as I guessed my temps are nice and toasty. Idles 60c and maxes out at 87c. I'm not too worried though. 87c is hot hot, but some of the crappier 6600gts and other cards run about that hot at stock settings anyways. It's a nice performance boost anyways going from 500/900 to 564/1.17. I think I'm ready for Oblivion. :)

On my Leadtek, before I got my aftermarket cooling, I could only get about 550/1100.

After I put a zalman 700-CU and some of those heavier, tall ramsinks on it I've been able to get 580/1150. I really haven't tried beyond that - I'm sure it goes higher.

Moral of the story: Get aftermarket?

Well, man!! Find your Rock solid overclock...you cannot state yours is 600/1200 when you cannot play certain games with such oc settings!!

We want a stable OC through all games!!
My XFX 6600GT PCI Express is rock solid through every game at 558/1180!!

I went ahead and modified the registry by clicking on the coolbits2 thing.... Now I'm not sure where the hell to change the clockspeeds.....

Wow, y'all got it past 500's when stock is 300? Do you have "fan always on" checked? Fast writes as well? So far this ATI --> NVidia change has been somewhat smooth. Can get Quake 4 on high settings with 8x AA :D It bogs down with 16x AA :(

I increase the core clock by 1mhz and test it...it fails the test. Is this normal? :S

I'm running "Forceware version : 81.85"

no, that isn't. are you saying it comes stock at 300 not 500? :Q

i've never heard of one that failed to at least get 510 or so...what psu are you running?
