If i were to decide to get a 1.8a P4, to replace my xp1700, i was just wondering how far i could push it, because i know a 1.6a will oc to 2.6, if my math is right i should be able to get the 1.8a to around 3ghz if i oc the fsb to 166, is my math right or would 3ghz be just too much heat??? thanks

i sure hope ur kidding, with the retail hsf...and maybe a 5 dollar cheap fan for security, u could reach 2.5-2.6...i would go for the asus p4b266 for OCing....my .02 cents...

My 1.8A (Asus P4B266, retail HSF, 2 x 256 Kingmax PC2700 RAM) won't even POST reliably at 2.4Ghz. Highest stable setting for me is 2.34Ghz (130FSB). It seems like this is pretty common with the 1.8A chips. If you look at the posts here, at Hard, Overclockers and Ars you'll see that very few peeps have got their 1.8A's over 2.4Ghz.

It looks like the 1.6A's are definately the way to go for OCing.

I've heard simliar things. The 1.6A seems to be the new 300A while the 1.8A is kind of a dud. Personally I think I'm goin to retire my Athlon setup and go for the 1.6A setup with watercooling and maybe a peltier. Hopefully I'll hit 2.5ghz with that.
