Today Fry's has a combo for $150. It's a P4 2.4 GHz w/ 1MB cache and ECS 848P-A MB.

1. How good is this new CPU in terms of overclocking and performance ?
2. I'm planning to get a MB with 865x chipset for less than $100, what's your suggestion ?
I need MB with ATA RAID, don't really need those 1394 and Gigabit NIC.
My friend agreed to buy the ECS MB in the combo from me for $50. So the CPU itself will cost me $100.

Your replies are needed ASAP

Your inputs are greatly appreciated!

Well, it doesn't have HT (hyper-threading) like the other Prescott's and all of the P4C's have, but if that doesn't bother you, I say get it. You can use the $50 you will be getting for the mobo to buy a Thermalright SP-94 heatsink (because those Prescott's run HOT): link.

Yeah you can OC
I Oced my ECS 848P-A with Intel P4 2.4Ghz Prescott 533Mhz FSB CPU to
3.02 Ghz without raising the voltage and no problem runs good.
just need a better heatsink. using 1 piece 512MB PC2700 memory

I'd wait for a lower price. The Fry's in austin tx had the same combo for $129 yesterday. It used to be $150 also.

no HT just makes it a junky celeron in my book since it is prescott and has a lower fsb
guess it's an "updated celeron" on paper since it has sse3 and 1mb cache and the new process tech
