How easy is it to switch to Linux from Windows

They do provide a binary-only kernel module to make it faster, but I've never tried it.

I was under the impression that it was linux/x86 only.

And you would be correct. Apparently they're working on something for Windows and FreeBSD though.

Let's say I'm starting with a new hard drive and I want to set it up with XP and Ubuntu in dual boot. How much space should I devote to the Ubuntu partition? 1GB, 5GB, 20GB? I'm not looking to make it my primary OS but I would like to play around with it.
