How easy is it to mod the 8045 heatsink

I have just recieved my Soltek 266a board and looking at it I believe that the 8045 will fit, except maybe in a rear corner.
There is a capiciter that might block it. Is it easy to cut a little off the corner? I can't see this affecting performance if I only
cut off 1/4" on one corner. I have a drill press. Could I drill out the corner easy enough?
Any hints would really be appreciated.

In the each of the four corners are where you secure the fan with four screws, that means that there is four holes there.
But it should sit with three screws also. I think it should be pritty easy to drill or mod it, aluminum is pritty easy to cut in.
The only problem I see is that you will woid your warranty, but how often does a heatsink breaks?

Seems like a fan could be held in place with three screws. You could always attach the last corner with a sheet metal screen that would anchor onto the pins. Just make sure you don't use something like a real grinder that might heat up and warp the sink.

It's gonna be mighty tight with that Cap near the 266a chip. I really wouldnt recommend running a
8045 with 3 screws. You might get the slightest angle and risk frying your processor. Alpha doesnt
list any Soltek boards on their fit/no fit list.

I would not need to cut anywhere near the heatsink screws that go into the motherboard.
How far past the rear of the socket does the heatsink go? There is just the capiciter everything else looks fine.
Take a look at this Picture.
If you look at the socket on the lower left hand side there is a capicter. That is really the only thing I think will cause a problem.
Even if the blue dip switches are too close they are shorter then the socket so the heatsink will go over them.
There is a line drawn around the socket on the board and there is nothing of any height in that area.
I don't know if this the clear area that AMD requires or if it's just for looks.

No but you might need to secrifice a hole that secure the fan in the heatsink, but that seems ok.

On my MSI board the Heatsink comes a little less then an 1/8" away from the white
line drawn around the socket. If you look at this pic MSI it might help you.

Speedtester, when you say away do you mean in or over the line. If it's within the line I think that it may just fit. It might need the slightest bit of moding, but I am willing to do that.

The heatsink is smaller then the white outlline, so its inside the lines. Let us know if you decide to get this and it fits.

Lets all hope it fits as I bought it tonight along with a 40 CFM Sunon fan.
I have my drill press up for sale so lets hope it doesn't sell until after I get the heatsink
just in case I need to drill a little off it.
