hit him in the nose. (It won't kill him. folks around here have been watching too many movies...) since you're taller you'll be punching down, an advantage. try to knock the nose into the back of his brain (you can't of course but try anyway). he WILL bleed like a pig so prepare to get out of the way...he could be infected. surrender quietly to the police. try to get unemployment after you're fired (you probably won't). show up for your court date and beg the judge for mercy. do community service. try to get a new job (which'll be hard because at your last job you punched out an employee) start drinking heavily. end it all.

Fighting at work is OUT of the question, even if he throws the first punch. It sounds like you are over him so why not fire him? If he throws the first punch, block it or tie him up. After that he WILL be fired and you'll still have a job with no idiot. I would LOVE to get rid of idiots in this world but you risk losing everything. If you were out in the streets in a dark alley and he attacked you, ya, kick the sh!t out of him and throw him in a dumpster. But you're at work, keep your cool at ALL costs. I know it's hard, but you have no choice. If you lose it, you'll lose BIG time.

You're proving why the guy doesn't taking directions from someone 20 years younger than him. You're thinking like a kid. Problem at the office? No big deal, just beat the crap out of the guy. There are BETTER ways to deal with things, and if there aren't, this will not improve the situation one iota.

The questions you should be asking are:

1) Is it worth being fired?

2) Hitting someone can land you in jail and probably will. Can you say "Thank you Mr. Probation Officer" or in the admittedly unlikely jail time scenario, "Hello Big Boy"?

3) You will be black listed. No references and a criminal record. Can you say pump gas?

4) You will probably be sued. Can you say broke forever?

More than likely the several seconds of satisfaction you gain won't be worth the pain. Yours that is.

Killing them is easy, but then you got to bury them, clean the blood out of the car, blah blah.... not worth it. :D

<< One shot to the nose can drive part of his skull into his brain]/Q]

Actually, it's the area under the nose between the nose and the lips that you have to be careful of. That area of the skull is pretty fragile and can cause collapse/damage that can lead to death. Also watch for the temples (sides of the head.) Then there's the solar plexus (soft spot right between the ribs and above the stomach.) Those are the three biggies. You can probably get away with cupping your hands and smashing the sides of his ears. Hit him hard enough, and it will cause some bleeding, great confusion, disorder, and he'll probably be on the ground for awhile. If you do it wrong, I suppose there's a small chance his hearing might be impaired. If you're not going to exert much force, go ahead and go for the nose. You can cause a nose bleed or something without too much force, but if you nail the bridge of the nose or the philtrum you might be in trouble. So, to answer your question, it's not that hard to kill someone if you know what you're doing. If you don't know what you're doing, you probably are going to wind up missing those spots anyway. Oh yeah... try to stay away from the throat a little bit unless you're choking him out or something.

Then again, how about you solve your problems peaceably like an adult?

You could invite him out for a drink, then get him in the parking lot :)

probably not such a good idea to fight at work; everybody's right.

Though it is, strictly speaking, hard to kill someone unintentionally with your fists of fury

With your bare hands? Not easy at all. You may cause broken bones/ribs, some internal bleeding, and perhaps even a concussion, but otherwise you won't be able to kill someone barehanded unless you know what you're doing, and/or totally beat the sh!t out of him, and he doesn't be subsequent medical attention.

Disregard the cr@p about avoiding certain areas, such as the face. Last time i checked, professional boxers hit each other in the face repeatedly during matches. In certain military training (the SEALS hand-to-hand fighting system SCARS comes to mind), they allow, heck, even encourage full-speed, full body contact. Two weeks of unrelenting pain and beating the snot outta each other.

It's gotta be fun for him when he fills out something like this.

He will have to say yes and describe in his own word. heheh everytime he gets a job. Checking no means they'll just find out through background check..

Now they only needed one person and had to pick between two people of similar performance. One with clean record and one with felony assault charge for beating up his co-worker on the job. Guess who they're going to pick?

The fact that you are even considering hitting him just shows that you can't handle the position of authority you suggest that you have. You haven't matured past the schoolyard.

For everyone else. First off, it is extremely easy for a trained person to kill someone; however, the open-palm-to-the-nose-shooting-fragments-into-brain-causing-death is an urban myth. Trust me. I spent many of my younger years having professionals hand me my ass on a plate when I wasn't returning the favor. However, there ARE some amazing and regretful things which I have both done and seen. I have personally witnessed a person cut open from another person's fingertips without the fingertips ever touching him.

Ultimately though, while much of what I did would be seen as "cool" by many of you, putting it to use has left me with some of my deepest regrets. I am now unabashedly a pacifist.

I try not to. But what if he just doesn't shut up?
What on earth could he be saying that could perhaps provoke you into losing your job?

In my opinion, I must agree with etech and say that you really might strongly consider taking this situation up with your supervisor first. Attempt to avoid a physical confrontation in the workplace. The last thing you need is loss of your job, a bad reference, a scene in front of your collegues and a potential lawsuit.

From another perspective, you may want to focus more on containing an aggressor in the workplace rather than kicking the crap out of him. A well thought self-defense requires no blows to the head. The requirement calls for smart thinking and practice. If you feel confident that you are stronger, the most simple method is to first consider immobilizing the subject's arms and forcing him to the ground - chest down. Then use your weight to subdue him. Attract attention once you have the situation under control. This is easier said than done, so practice it.

The bottom line is that if you must "sell-out", or in otherwords actually confront someone physically in such a situation, always be prepared for the worst. The "worst" assumes he is armed.... or may be armed at a later time when you least expect it.

I myself have found myself in a similar situation in fights. You want to hurt the person, but not kill them. Stay from side or back of the head, throat, upper chest, kidneys, and thighs. You can hit the nose but hit straight or with a downward motion. Jaw is safe and so is stomach.

If you are his supervisor and he doesn't like being supervised by him act like an adult and deal with it like an adult. Make his working life a living hell. Document all his outbursts and turn them over to HR, etc. Jeeze, don't act like a little kid and fight him, that will just get YOU in trouble and make him look good.

<< Kick him in the balls. That'll teach him :p >>

Thats it!! Just show him you're not in the mood to deal with his sh!t. That'll shut him up. And becuase he's a midget, you dont have to worry about him and his midget friends beating you up :D
