How durable are LCD monitors?

I mean, how hard of a hit can they take without being damaged? You see, this kid at my house put a clothespin on my hair and I shook my head to get it off, but it hit my monitor, I think pretty hard. It left a mark, but I think I was able to rub it off with my shirt, but I don't know if there is any permanent damage there of colors are messed up or something that I can't see anymore. So, how durable are LCD monitor screens? Thanks.

As long as there is no deep scratch/tear mark it should be fine. Is there any color distortion or anything on the lcd powered on where it was hit?

Color distortion: I haven't noticed anything yet.

I don't understand the second part of that sentence, though....><

If you can't see any marks or image distortions, it's fine.

The LCD consists of liquid crystal sandwiched between two layers of glass, with a protective layer on top. If you damaged the glass, it means they'd shatter and you'd definitely notice that. Otherwise, the only thing that'd get damaged is if the protective layer got scratched or dented, but you can find out by looking at the screen at a sharp angle under bright light when the LCD is turned off.
